We'll, since I've read the ARC a ridiculous number of times (11), it's easy to say II adored this book. The protagonist, Asa, was reckless in her selfless behavior, but her heart was pure gold. Eagle, the love interest, was a bit of a mystery and a wounded, silent warrior. I would have liked more clarity about his motives, but he had my number almost from the start. New book boyfriend, anyone? Yes, please. The plot was well paced to develop a meaningful relationship that could believably blossom into love. The book kicked off with good, solid action, and it drew me in and kept me reading. This was a one sitting, straight through book for me. Good thing I fed the kids before I started, or they might have had to graze until I finished! The politics of the society were clearly explained and developed nice tension as they became more complex throughout the story. Some of the narrative jumps were a little abrupt, but I think that was more of a formatting issue in my ARC than anything, and they didn't disrupt my enjoyment. There was some confusing action when things got really heated, especially in the first action sequence when I wasn't really sure what was going on, but it was mid battle, so some chaos is expected. I won't tell you this is a perfect book, but I enjoyed every second of it. I think my high school readers will enjoy the premise, the intrigue, and the romance, so this one is definitely going on my high school classroom library wish list. Language and situations are appropriate for all ages, but high school students will enjoy this the most. I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Inherit the Stars eBook Tessa Elwood Reviews

An engaging read with fascinating characters and a page turning plot. Three cheers for Asa! I recommend you read this book
Great intro but it could have been longer, especially if the author wants us to purchase the full ebook that's priced higher than the majority of ebooks in its category.(I almost gave it 3-stars as there's plenty of reports available to help guide the book to a fair price range.) It is not long enough to reflect nor build up characters in a readers' mind, let alone give the reader a taste of what they would be purchasing; yet I conclude with 4 stars because I believe the author has good intentions and the story line of the actual book is intriguing.
Great introduction to the book - Inherit the Stars - which will be released in December of this year. I wish it would have been longer - more of a prequel to the story with more background and additional information to actually entise the reader to buy the book when it comes out. Unfortunately, from this small tid-bit, I did not get the desire to run out and buy the book. Reading about Wren's birthday celebration was nice but it would have been better if there was more story and character development.
I loved this book! It is a space opera of the best kind - with Nation-States that include whole planetary systems, ruling houses that continue via bloodlines, and betrayals and sacrifices and love.

An energy crisis has led to desperate times, and Fane, Asa's father and ruler of the House of Fane, has decided to unplug the life-support of his oldest (recently comatose) daughter in a bid to marry his second daughter off in an arranged marriage with the house of Westlet. Hoping to save her oldest sister, Asa takes her 2nd sister's place in the arranged marriage.

Tensions are high right from the beginning. We are thrown into this amazing world that grows up around us. It felt so real. From the food shortage (I had to get up and make a sandwich to prove I wasn't going to starve!), to the space travel, to the amazing characters.

Despite Asa's ill-thought-out plans and the mess she creates, I was rooting for her the whole way. I wanted so much for her sister to get better. For her father to forgive her. For Westlet to accept her. I was rooting for her and Eagle, and so caught up in the politics that made their relationship so hard. This world felt real.

And Asa. I just love her. With her eagerness to please. Her love and loyalty. Her courage to do whatever it took to save her sister. Even sacrificing herself. She is young. She is not respected. But she tries and works anyway. And though she can't see her own strength, she is STRONG.

I need more books like this one!
This is the first book in the series and it was an interesting addition to the young adult sci-fi genre. It centers on teen Asa, who is the third daughter of the house of Fane. Asa gets caught up--or rather gets herself tangled up--in the intergalactic politics between the houses of Fane, Westlet, and eventually Galton. Asa seemed like a real teenager, desiring to fight for what’s right yet not always aware of the consequences. She’s not a hard, tough heroine but a real girl with strengths and weaknesses. There are some twists and surprises in the story, even in the very last chapter. I love the arranged marriage plotline so I really enjoyed the budding romance from that angle. Asa’s unexpected marriage to Eagle sets off a chain reaction of events as each of the houses fight/maneuver for precious food and energy resources. I thought the story was fast-paced and I wanted to keep reading to see what happens next. As other reviewers have noted, I think there could have been more world-building so I could get a clearer picture of this intergalactic system. Also, the whole medi-chip, including what it could potentially do, was a bit confusing. However, I appreciated the diversity of the characters, the realistic relationship between Asa and Eagle, the fast-paced action, and how Asa grows over the course of the story. I would definitely be interested in a sequel---4.5 stars.
