This book from veteran author Henkes hits all the right notes in a deceptively simple story about a only-child daughter who vacations with her parents in Florida every year. Every year she has the same routines (including her birthday), but this year is different for many reasons, not the least is her growing awareness of the lives and feelings of those around her. How the protagonist navigates the changes in structure/relationships of her small close-knit vacation community is deftly told. Also, it's a great story narrated by an interesting protagonist who gives us a look into the inner world of a young person as she makes sense of herself and her place in her family and community. Highly recommended.

Junonia Kevin Henkes 9780061964176 Books Reviews

It is different from most other books I have read. It showed how to be mature and also to set examples.
Love the writing! Probably for late 3rd for 4th grade. I read it and loved it. Heartily recommended!
This was a gift and I have not seen the item but it was a current recommended book and it was a reasonable cost. They were excited to receive it. I am sure it is all good!
Love it... so do my grandchildren!
My ten-year old loved this book! She really "got into" the story -- so much so, she wants us to go to FLA for vacation.
My daughter and I enjoyed reading this wonderful story together. We were sad when it ended. My daughter even loved the feel of the book in her hands. Such high quality you don't see too often.
This was a very sweet coming-of-age story dealing with change and disappointed expectations. It was simply written yet delivers a strong message about acceptance and flexibility. Recommended for fourth grade and up.
