As any Horrible Historie book written by this witty British author, Groovy Greeks comprises of an introduction, a timeline stretching from the Myceneans to the Roman Invasion and the ban of the Olympic Games, facts about gods, war, theatre and epic poems, Greek life in Athens and Sparta, superstitions, Greek inventions, Olympic Games, food, a surprising epilogue and other interesting information to learn about those smart chaps.

If you grew up reading Greek Myths or if you have been watching the Horrible Histories TV show, you may already know some of the facts about this fascinating civilisation, but for me, it was still a pleasant read, due to the author’s humour, the funny illustrations and the way they blend it with the information and stories from the book. For example, I didn’t know that Aristotle invented “the ‘camera obscura’ – a sort of pinhole camera and the idea behind today’s film and television –now that really was groovy!” (Loc 50) If you remember from school, history is full of wars, tyranny, violence treason, injustice, greed, revenge and you will find some examples in this book as well, from the sneaky way the Greeks manage to enter into Troy, to Socrates’ death.

In short, Groovy Greeks is an informative and funny book I highly recommend to kids and adults alike.

I love history and Greek stuff! Sooooooooooooooo awesome!!! I love the "packed" action. The details and comic are cool, too!
In search of new ways of teaching, i've came across this wonderfull book series. histrory class became fun, pupils wouldn't leave the class, and the pile of questions and discussions is getting higher and higher. i wish it would b translated to Hebrew. tnx Terry Deary for finding the best way for childrens to love history!
The kids really enjoyed reading this...they were learning while having fun. We are definitely going to be reading more of the books in this series as we work our way through history. We have already gotten the "Rotten Romans" and that is just as awesome.
I read a few of these books when I was younger, and I must say, they're great. You learn about as much as you would from a textbook, but the format is such that it's fun to read. The little illustrations are funny, and the jokes are too, making it ideal for a younger audience. Even an older audience could get a kick out of it, it's a welcome change from the normal history books. I would highly recommend getting these for any kids in the family, it's very fun, and very educational.
